At 10:24 AM, the second alert. Then a third. By 10:31 AM, a cascade of red flooded her monitoring dashboard. 802.4xx errors. Timeouts. Connection resets.
She watched the bandwidth graph spike. The Meridian backbone was a fiber-optic river; 6.2 GB was a pebble. The download completed in forty-seven seconds.
The seed. Patient zero. The first machine that requested the update from Microsoft’s CDN. 25h2 update download
On her secondary monitor, she saw the scope expand. Ring 1. Ring 2. The guest WiFi. A test VM in the Azure tenant. The bandwidth graph looked less like a river and more like a tsunami. Meridian Trust’s 10 Gbps pipe was saturated. 80%. 94%. 99%.
The command failed. Access denied.
She dug through the IIS logs on the WSUS server. At 10:03:17 AM, the request had come from… the WSUS server itself. The initial download was clean. The corruption didn't happen during download. It happened during extraction.
