Traditional Television & Streaming (OTT) The Shift: While free-to-air TV (RCTI, SCTV, Trans TV, Indosiar) still reaches massive audiences for live events (soccer, awards shows), viewership has plummeted among under-35s. Streaming platforms (Netflix, Viu, Disney+ Hotstar, Prime Video, and local player Vidio) now produce the most talked-about premium content.
For an outsider, the sheer volume of content can feel repetitive. However, beneath the surface, young Indonesian creators are pushing boundaries in horror satire, indie music, and absurdist short-form comedy – making it a region worth watching closely.
