Some fans dislike it, but it’s important for Gohan’s character. Filler: Episode 196 (Gohan fights criminals) — fun. Episodes 202–204 (Videl learns flying) — good. Verdict: Not essential but charming. Watch 195–199, 210–219 (tournament starts). Skip if you only want fighting. 6. Majin Buu Arc (Episodes 220–291) Episodes 220–236: Babidi, Majin Vegeta vs. Goku. Review: Dark, psychological. Goku vs. Frieza. Review: Legendary but infamously slow. The “five minutes until Namek explodes” lasts from episode 85 to 105. Episode 95 (Goku turns Super Saiyan) is iconic. Filler: Episodes 98–99 (Fake Namek) — completely irrelevant. Episodes 100–101 (Ginyu returns in a frog) — silly but fun. Episodes 103–105 (stalling Frieza) — painfully stretched.
Essential viewing from 1–5, 21–35. Episode 9 is fine. Skip 12–14, 17, 31. 2. Namek / Frieza Arc (Episodes 36–107) Episodes 36–44: Journey to Namek. Review: Great world-building. Episode 39 (Vegeta kills Cui) is awesome. Filler: Episode 42 (Ginyu Force on King Kai’s planet) is skippable.
Imperfect Cell absorbs Androids 17 & 18. Review: Tense horror-like atmosphere. Cell’s first form is creepy. Pacing drags in episodes 150–155 (Cell searches for 18). Filler: Episodes 155–158 (Cell fights Piccolo and 17 extended). Episode 159 (Krillin holds 18) — fine.
