They land in Wilmington. The HD cinematography revels in the contrast: the muddy, bustling streets of the port town versus the memory of Parisian cobblestones. They reunite with the jovial, bear-like Duncan Innes, who brings news of Jamie’s Aunt Jocasta—a sharp, blind matriarch who rules her plantation, River Run, with a voice like cut glass and a memory that sees everything.

Back on the Ridge, the final act is a conflagration. Brianna (Sophie Skelton) has arrived through the stones, pregnant with Roger’s child after a traumatic, misbegotten reunion where Roger (misidentified as Bonnet) was sold to the Mohawk. The family is reunited, but poisoned. Roger, back from the Mohawk, is a hollowed man—hanged and cut down, his voice a ruined rasp. He cannot forgive Brianna for not looking for him.
