The tape warps. The editor (me) filters out the 60 Hz hum.
Click. The tape ends. But the signal meter on my screen is still bouncing.

He laughs, but it decays into static.
“The manual says: ‘This device receives the present.’ But that’s a lie. It receives every present that ever was — stacked on the same frequency. All time, bleeding together. And something is listening back.”
