This paper examines the cultural and cinematic implications of a hypothetical sequel to Ayan Mukerji’s 2013 blockbuster Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (YJHD). While no official sequel exists, fan campaigns, social media speculation, and Dharma Productions’ sequel-friendly franchise model invite critical analysis. The paper argues that YJHD2 would likely replace the original’s youthful hedonism with neoliberal adult anxieties — marriage, career stagnation, and curated nostalgia. Using theoretical frameworks of post-2000s Hindi cinema and fan studies, this paper explores how a sequel would negotiate between reproducing iconic moments (e.g., “Balam Pichkari”) and addressing millennial/Gen Z disillusionment.
