Jeremy, stunned, whispers: "No one’s ever given me lint before."
Libby closes her locker. "Goodbye, Sheldon."
She walks away. Sheldon watches her go, and for a split second—in a beautiful 720p close-up—his face softens. He has just met his first friend. He doesn't know it yet. That night, Missy goes to Jeremy’s house. She gives him a bag of lint she collected from the dryer. "I heard you collect this," she says. "I got some from our house. It’s mostly George’s, so it smells like barbecue."
Missy: "That’s sad. But also, you should probably find a better hobby."
Mary sighs. "The point is, being the best isn’t the same as being happy."
Libby: "x equals two and x equals three."
At school, Sheldon proudly presents his TI-30 Galaxy to his class. The teacher, Missy’s teacher (the kindly but overwhelmed Mrs. Gunderson), allows him to demonstrate a complex multiplication (47 x 83). He does it in his head in 0.2 seconds, then uses the calculator to “verify.” The class is unimpressed. They’ve seen this trick.
Sheldon solves it in 4.3 seconds: 3x² + 4x - 5 .
